Frequently Asked Questions

How does the filter work? +

Without getting too technical, the DuraFlo filter works basically as a magnet. The filter is positively charged and viruses and bacteria are negatively charged so the bad stuff gets stuck to the filter and does not get released.

What is the shelf life of the filters? +

The filters do not expire. They can be stored away for use at some future date or they can be used daily. When not in use, let the filter air dry and then you can store them away for use later as well. They do not break when dropped, they are not damaged when frozen and they do not need to stay wet.

When do I change my filter? +

You change the filter when the flow of water becomes too slow and unrealistic to wait for drinking water. Although the flow may be slow, the water coming out is still good and safe to drink even if it is a trickle.

Do I need to prime the filter before using the AquaPail? +

No, you don't need to prime the filter but it helps get the flow going faster. If you don't prime it, it will just take a little bit longer for the filter to get soaked in enough for the water to start flowing.

Do I need to discard any water when I put in a new filter? +

Yes, always discard the first couple of cups of water after replacing a new filter. The water is not harmful to you but it may contain some residue from the filter or have floaties in the water.
